The Importance of Being Earnest (A Theorical Costume Design)

The Importance of Being Earnest is a romantic comedy with a somewhat absurdist nature. The show satirizes Victorian social conventions, class structures, relationships, love, and behavior in a way that is comedic and entertaining for audiences. My design leans into the comedy of the script, with silhouettes that are accurate to the mid-1890's while taking bold artistic liberties in the color palette and fabric choices. The costumes are colorful, and altogether absurd and ridiculous, aiding the actors in their comedic performances and creating a world that feels like fantasy.
